It Takes Two

Lest readers of this blog (all three or four of you) think that I was the only one contributing to home improvements lately, I thought it was high time to provide an update on Nick's projects.  His Craftman workbench is complete and he has been using it regularly for all sorts of projects.  He is hoping to build some furniture over the winter (I am not sure what yet but he is thinking perhaps an entertainment center).

Recently (ie. last week) we had some folks out to the house to take down some dead trees in our yard between our home and the next-door-neighbors.  Just in time, too - one of the trees was so rotten that it started to wobble as soon as they tied a rope to it!  So now we have slightly fewer trees and a lot of potential firewood.  We can't use it yet as the wood needs to dry, but that's fine as we likely won't be converting our fireplace from gas to wood-burning until next year.  In the meantime, though, Nick realized that we were going to need a formal woodpile.  We can't just leave the logs to rot on the ground; one has to raise them up above ground level.  So he bought himself metal sawhorse brackets so he could make a pair of sawhorses (quite ingenious), and then he made this:

Pretty neat!  He thinks we will probably need another one eventually; one for wood actively drying and one for wood that is already dry.  Way to go, hubby!

  1. I'd absolutely love to help on some woodworking projects. I haven't done anything in years, but I imagine I could remember what I'm doing pretty readily. It's tough to find an excuse to put together a shop in my apartment.
