Ups and Downs

It's been a busy weekend for getting work done in the guest room.  We bought a new mattress for ourselves and decided that our previous mattress would move to the guest room.  This meant that I had to get the crown molding painted before arrival of the new mattress Saturday at 11.  Or at least the section in the corner where the bed would be.  But I found myself on a roll painting and taping, and before I knew it I had repainted all of the crown molding.  Then after the bed arrived, I repainted all of the woodwork around the windows too.  Still need to do the doorjamb and the closet frame, but Nick wants to remove the closet doors before I paint so that will have to be another weekend.

All that pink at the top of the walls?  Gone now.

I also worked on a fair bit of furniture.  Put the finishing touches on the side table with waxing and putting on a new cute birdcage drawer pull (Lowe's - who knew?).

I opted to paint the inside of the drawer Duck Egg Blue for a pop of color, and I like the contrast!

I am far less pleased with my second painting project.  My mother-in-law donated an old chest of drawers, painted black and a little raggedy, for the guest room.  I decided to paint it the same blue as the inside of the side table/nightstand.  Given that the piece is already a little beat up, I decided to try for the "distressed" look that ASCP (Annie Sloan Chalk Paint) is so famous for facilitating.

Before

I don't have a photo of the whole chest in blue, but suffice to say that I a) don't like the distressed look of blue over black, and b) think that the entire chest in blue is too much.  Back to the drawing board!
