When Nick and I were in Vermont last month, my mother-in-law, being a generous individual, offered up a rocking chair of our choice from the house. There were several to choose from, but I opted for one that I thought I would have some fun repainting for the guest room. I find it difficult to pass up an opportunity to use Annie Sloan Chalk Paint (ASCP), after all. Looking for color inspiration, I spent some time browsing at the
local stockist (I still can't believe we have one in this little town). Janet, who owns the shop, has helpfully put together a book of what various color combinations look like when mixed. After browsing the pages, I decided to mix
Duck Egg Blue (which I used on the chest of drawers in the guest room) with the darker
Greek Blue, to make a color that would echo the drawers a little bit without being too matchy-matchy. It also coordinates with the bedspread in the guest room, though eventually we may replace the bedspread so who knows.
So I had my color picked, and then I decided to get fancy and try and incorporate a little
ombre` into the piece by shading the back of the chair. This turned out to be much more work than I had anticipated, but the effect is pretty cool. I still need to wax the chair to finish it, but here's a basic before and after:

I'm honestly still not 100% convinced that I should have stuck with white and just repainted it, or painted it grey, but the blue is slowly growing on me, and Nick likes it.
